News Summer Term 2026
With a little Help From Our Friend, John Bloomfield ..…

John Bloomfield, whose parents founded the original Bloomfield Learning Centre in 1973, has remained a staunch supporter of the Centre for more than 50 years. Renowned for ‘thinking outside the box’, a very dyslexic thing to do, he recently donated a gift paid to him by the British Library in exchange for a very special tape recording. In 1963, whilst a teenager, at Stowe School, John secretly recorded a unique performance by the Beatles – the band’s first and only school concert.

In the Community
Approximately 3 children in every classroom have dyslexia. Many remain undiagnosed and struggle with poor literacy skills throughout their education. By reaching in to the community, the Bloomfield team are working to identify the learning needs of as many of these children as we can. In the Summer term,
- Donal is delivering the Star spelling and language programme in St Jude’s Primary, Southwark.
- Lucy is teaching in John Fisher School, Croydon and Elms Academy, Lambeth.
- Jane, Jane and Luthfa will be visiting Surrey Square Primary School for our first Parents’ Coffee Morning. We hope it will be the first of many.
The Senco will give a short presentation about dyslexia to be followed by advice sessions for parents to discuss their children’s literacy needs. We’ll be offering free and subsidised specialist teaching for children who are struggling to keep up in the classroom.
Fundraising

We need your help
We’ll be holding our 3rd sponsored event at the start of the Autumn term to raise funds for lesson bursaries. If you’d like to be involved let your teacher know and Jane will give you a call.
All pupils and parents are welcome to join our fundraising brainstorming meetings.
We’re looking for suggestions for activities, locations, potential sponsors and prizes.
